Choose Who Leads You.
We’ve talked about letting go. We’ve talked about what happens when you don’t choose.
Now we get to the part most people avoid.
Doing something different.
Because awareness without action will leave you in the same patterns— just more conscious of them. And knowing better… without moving better… can become its own kind of frustration.
Leadership Is a Choice—Not a Feeling
You won’t always feel aligned. You won’t always feel ready. That’s why this can’t be based on emotion. Because if your feelings lead you, you’ll return to what’s familiar every time things get uncomfortable. Choosing who leads you isn’t about how you feel in the moment—
it’s about what you’ve decided is true despite the moment.
The Framework: Building the Version That Leads
If a new version of you is going to lead— they need structure. Not perfection. Structure.
1. Define What Alignment Means to You
Not what looks good. Not what sounds impressive. What actually feels true. What do you value now? What do you no longer tolerate? What kind of life are you building toward?
If you don’t define alignment, you’ll keep chasing what’s familiar.
2. Identify the Old Patterns That Still Try to Lead
Be honest here. What do you default to when things get hard? Shutting down? Overworking? Avoiding? Detaching? Proving? You don’t need to judge it.
But you do need to recognize it. Because you can’t replace what you pretend isn’t there.
3. Create New Responses—Before You Need Them
Growth doesn’t happen in the moment of pressure. It shows up from what you decided before the moment. So ask yourself: When I feel the urge to shut down—what will I do instead? When I want to isolate—what choice will I make instead? When fear shows up—how will I respond differently? You are rehearsing your next level of leadership.
4. Practice in Small Moments
Not everything needs to be a breakthrough. Sometimes it’s: Pausing before reacting. Sending the message you would’ve avoided. Saying no when you would’ve overextended. Resting when you would’ve pushed through. Small shifts. Repeated consistently. That’s how identity changes.
5. Stay With the Discomfort
Because it will feel unfamiliar. You will question it. You will want to revert.
That doesn’t mean it’s wrong. It means it’s new. And new doesn’t feel natural— until it becomes who you are.
Becoming the Leader of Your Life
The version of you that leads now isn’t built overnight. They’re built in decisions.
In moments where you could go back… but you don’t. In moments where the old voice gets loud… and you choose not to follow it. This is what it looks like to become someone on purpose.
Reflection
You’ve honored who you were. You’ve recognized they can’t lead anymore. Now comes the part that changes everything— choosing who does. And not just once. But daily.
So I’ll ask you again… who leads you?
And if you’re quiet long enough… you’ll know who’s leading.
