The Mailbox Inside My Chest PART 9 — Dear The Night I Almost Wasn't Here

Dear The Night I Almost Wasn't Here,

For years, you lived in silence.

A chapter I rarely discussed.

A story I rarely told.

A memory I kept tucked away where few people could find it.

Not because it wasn't important.

But because surviving it felt complicated.

There was a time in my life when the pain became louder than the hope.

When exhaustion became louder than possibility.

When I genuinely believed the world might be better without me in it.

That's difficult to admit.

Even now.

Because people often assume survival stories belong to someone else.

Someone weaker.

Someone different.

Someone whose life looked nothing like theirs.

But pain doesn't discriminate.

Hopelessness doesn't discriminate.

Despair doesn't discriminate.

And there was a season where I was losing a battle most people didn't even know I was fighting.

The details matter less than the truth.

The truth is that I wanted the pain to stop.

The truth is that I couldn't see a future beyond what I was feeling.

The truth is that I underestimated how temporary feelings can convince us they're permanent.

And yet...

Here I am.

Still breathing.

Still writing.

Still becoming.

Not because I suddenly found all the answers.

Not because life magically became easy.

But because the story wasn't over.

There were books I hadn't written.

People I hadn't met.

Lives I hadn't touched.

Conversations I hadn't had.

Purpose I hadn't discovered.

And perhaps most importantly...

There was a version of me I had not yet become.

I don't write this letter for sympathy.

I write it for honesty.

Because someone reading this may understand exactly what that darkness feels like.

And if that's you, I hope you hear this:

The way you feel today is not the final chapter.

Pain is a chapter.

Grief is a chapter.

Hopelessness is a chapter.

But none of them get to write the ending alone.

Sincerely,

The Man Who Stayed

These were never just letters. They were surviving out loud.
